History of line 1 Metrovalencia

The current Metrovalencia tram line has its origins in old train lines that connected different stations in and around Valencia. The original layout of the train ran from Valencia to Bétera in the north and to Villanueva de Castellón in the south. In 1988, a tunnel was inaugurated that linked the old lines, and later it was decided to manage them as a single line, line 1. However, in 2015 they were operated again separately, becoming line 2.

The section between Empalme and Pont de Fusta was closed in 1991 and converted into line 4 of the tram. In 2006, there was a serious accident on line 2, with 43 deaths. In 2010, the names of some stations were changed and this caused controversy, so finally, in 2016, the Jesús station got its original name back.
